To ensure Tasmanian senior secondary students are provided with fair and equitable delivery and assessment of Years 11 and 12 courses, the Office of TASC has considered the impact of the current COVID-19 circumstances on learning for students, acknowledging the extraordinary situation faced by learners, teachers and school communities.

If students complete TASC accredited courses in 2020, they will receive credit points towards their TCE. Year 12 students who complete the required credit points to achieve the TCE’s Participation and Achievement Standard, and the other Standards of the TCE will be awarded their certificate.

Stage one: 2020 Course Considerations

TASC and Years 9-12 Learning have completed stage one of stakeholder consultation to analyse individual courses, challenges to their delivery, and to provide detailed advice (2020 course considerations) to support the delivery of those courses in 2020.

The advice (2020 course considerations) provided in stage one considered the impact that COVID-19 restrictions would have on teaching and learning if students did not return to classroom based learning until mid/end of July 2020. While recognising that the Premier, Hon. Peter Gutwein announced on Friday 8 May, a staged approach to students returning to the school environment from Monday 25 May, TASC will retain the considerations for the 2020 school year in recognition of the disruption and uncertainty already caused.

All Level 1 – 4 TASC accredited courses have been grouped, dependent on the action required, following consultation with teachers, TASC Marking Coordinators, and the cross-sectoral Learning Teaching and Assessment Committee (LTA) and Learning Area Groups (LAG).

Stage two: 2020 External Assessment

Stage two of the process will explore 2020 External Assessment. This stage will include consultation with key stakeholders, re-convening the External Assessment Specifications Advisory Group and providing advice to schools and teachers by the end of May. We will continue to ensure national consistency is achieved while we complete this stage.
