There are refinements to Calculator Use in External Exams – Rules and Requirements (previously called the Calculator Use Policy).

What has changed?

  • The document has been streamlined into a clearer rules-based format, including being explicit that:
    • Calculators must have wireless and Bluetooth functions disabled.
    • Calculators must not store prepared answers or documents.
  • Students in courses that don’t require a calculator (such as humanities and social sciences and languages) may now bring a basic calculator to their exam if they wish.
  • Appendix 1 has been reorganised to group the courses with exams by the type of calculator permitted.

Course teachers should ensure their students are aware of the updated rules and know which calculators are permitted for their courses.

Students should speak to their teacher if they have any questions. They must bring the correct type of calculator, ensure it is charged and working, and follow the updated requirements in their 2025 exams.

Teachers can check with TASC if they are unsure of any of the calculator use rules and requirements, which were refined based on school feedback about the previous policy.
