TASC’s External Assessment Rules have been updated for external assessments from 2026 onwards.

If you’re completing an external assessment, make sure you read the rules that apply to the assessment type/s in your courses.

Most of the updates clarify existing requirements and make it easier to understand what is expected for the external assessment. Some updates also address emerging issues and expectations to maintain the integrity of external assessments.

What has changed:

Improved structure

  • The rules have been reorganised to make them easier to read and navigate.
  • Rules that apply to all external assessments are now grouped together, followed by assessment-specific rules for written, folio, practical and oral assessments.
  • New subheadings have been added throughout the document to help you find information more quickly.

Key rule updates

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Rule 1.1.2: You must not: …. use any materials, technology or information in a dishonest or unauthorised way, including use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools or other technology in a way that is not permitted for the external assessment.
  • Rule 1.2.7: You must provide reasonable assistance to TASC in the investigation of any alleged breach of these rules.
  • Rules 2.2.5 – 2.2.7. These rules provide clearer guidance about wearing hats, caps, beanies or other head coverings (excluding items worn for religious or cultural reasons), as well as clothing that could conceal unauthorised materials or devices.
  • Rule 1.4.11: You must not access notes, unauthorised materials or electronic devices, or communicate with others, during authorised breaks or supervised absences from the assessment venue.
