Safeguarding Children and Young People

The training is compulsory and is designed to help us all understand how to better safeguard kids in Tasmania.

The Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act 2023 states that all “workers” are required to complete the training. “Workers” include all DECYP employees (all TASC employees are considered DECYP employees), External Service Providers and Volunteers.

When employed by TASC in a sessional staff role you must watch the Safeguarding Children and Young People - Training video* before you work with any children and young people this year. Please refer to the DECYP Safeguarding Training page for further details.

You will learn what to do if you believe a child or young person is being harmed and make sure you are doing all you can to prevent this from happening. You will also learn what your reporting requirements are.

*It is compulsory for DECYP staff employed outside of a TASC sessional staff role to complete the full DECYP Safeguarding Training.

- I am a current DECYP employee and have completed the required Safeguarding Training Modules.

- I have read the State Service Code of Conduct, contained in the State Service Act 2000 and understand its application to the duties of my role with TASC.

- I will use all reasonable endeavours to secure all confidential information in my possession, or control against loss and unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure.

- I will not disclose any information obtained while carrying out my duties for TASC for personal or commercial purposes.

- I will return all TASC documents, data and equipment to TASC on the completion of my duties.

- Update this Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Declaration each calendar year during my employment with TASC and at such times as there are changes to my circumstances that impact the conflict(s) of interest that exist.

- Comply with any conditions or restrictions imposed by TASC to manage or eliminate an actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest.
If a situation arises that results in an unforeseen conflict of interest, or a breach of my Conflict Management Plan or other conditions or restrictions that are imposed by TASC, I agree, as soon as possible, to:

- Take reasonable steps to remove myself from the situation.

- Report the situation to TASC or a TASC representative.
