English Literature Level 3 is the close study of literary texts

The course focuses on evaluating how texts represent culture and identity, analysing the interplay of author, text, audience and context, and reflecting on multiple interpretations across forms and periods. The course is suited to learners who wish to read deeply and craft both analytical and imaginative responses. Learners will interpret and evaluate representations and perspectives across periods, traditions and forms, considering how contexts shape meaning and reception. They'll develop and defend interpretations through close reading, precise critical terminology and engagement with relevant critical perspectives. They'll create analytical and imaginative texts for specific audiences and purposes, adapting style, voice and form and producing a range of oral, written and multimodal responses. Learners will plan and manage extended literary inquiry, using drafting, editing and reflection processes and responding purposefully to feedback. Texts studied are chosen from a prescribed list to ensure broad coverage of periods, forms and cultural perspectives, with scope for programs to reflect local contexts and interests. Assessment comprises a structured range of analytical, reflective and creative tasks, culminating in an externally assessed body of work. The course prepares learners for further literary study and communication-focused pathways through rigorous analysis, reasoned argument and creative transformation of texts.
