When a school registers with TASC to deliver TASC-accredited courses, the principal must appoint a staff member as the TASC Liaison Officer (TLO). This is one of the obligations of being a TASC provider school. TASC does not fund the TLO role.

The TLO role:

  • is the conduit between the school and TASC and ensures the school complies with all TASC policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
  • is under the supervision of the school principal/principal delegate.
  • is located at the specific school.
  • will require a time release. The number of students studying TASC-accredited courses in a school will determine the loading/allocation of time release required to undertake the role.
  • is ideally suited to a teacher who is a full-time, permanent employee in the school, although this is not a prerequisite.

The TLO Position Description document outlines the role and expectations. At times, the responsibilities of the TLO role may extend beyond the academic school year, particularly regarding end-of-year resulting queries and follow-up.

It is expected that TLOs correspond with TASC directly through the TRACS portal.

Key duties are outlined in the sections below:

TASC Liaison Officers (TLOs) ensure that:

The school registration with TASC is accurate at all times (including the school course scope and student enrolments in TRACS which is TASC’s online administration system).

TASC Liaison Officers (TLOs) ensure that:

  • The school complies with any directions made by TASC under Section 33 of the Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification Act 2003 in relation to the provision or assessment of a TASC accredited course.
  • Internal assessment made by the school that contributes to results certified by TASC has an adequate level of reliability, validity and fairness.
  • Assessment materials are collected and provided to TASC when required.
  • Students are correctly and clearly identified in any data provided to TASC.
  • Data provided to TASC is complete and accurate.
  • Applications for reasonable adjustments and extensions to external folio deadlines are endorsed.
  • Information is provided to TASC to confirm school policies, procedures and practices.

TLOs assist their school to meet the requirements in the Standards for Providers. See the Focus Area by Term poster developed to help schools and teachers to keep track of the key areas to focus on year-round and by school term.

TASC has the following resources that TLOs are encouraged to use to inform themselves and their school communities:

  • relevant TASC policies – including academic integrity, enrolment of Pre-Year 11 students, external assessment, quality assurance, calculator use, prescribed text procedure, and reasonable adjustments
  • key dates
  • the fortnightly TASC Update for dissemination using your school’s communication processes
  • the suite of TASC resources for senior secondary education course planning, course options and types of assessment including:

TASC run TLO forums and information sessions each term and they are essential for TLOs to attend.

  • TLO Forums are run usually in the first few weeks of each new term.
  • In Term 1, the TLO Forum is an in-person training workshop that is held in the three regions in Tasmania.
  • In Terms 2, 3 and 4, the TLO Forums are online and are always from 3.30 – 4.00pm to allow teachers to attend without interrupting the regular teaching and learning program.
  • TLOs will gain information about current initiatives, upcoming actions, and ongoing requirements, as well as being an opportunity to ask questions and clarify processes.
  • Various drop-in sessions are also offered during the year to support TLOs with various aspects of the TLO role, including for Reasonable Adjustments and Written Exam Timetable notification.
