Externally Assessed Folios for TASC Level 3 and Level 4 Courses

For some courses, you must submit a folio or project as part of your external assessment. The Student FAQs – Externally Assessed Folios document is designed to help students and teachers understand the requirements and processes for these assessments. This document provides answers to common questions and step-by-step guidance on how to plan, create, and submit a folio. It also explains what happens after submission, including how your folio is assessed and how to request it back if it was submitted in hard copy.

Guidelines, Due Dates and Folio Declarations

Change of process – 2026

From 2026, TASC is no longer publishing a “due date to teacher” for externally assessed folios. Only a due date to TASC will be published. Schools are responsible for setting and managing their own internal due dates for students.

Guidelines, due dates, and submission requirements for externally assessed folios vary by course.

TASC publishes a due date to TASC only for externally assessed folios.

Schools are responsible for setting their own internal due date to teachers to allow sufficient time for review, verification, and submission to TASC.

Students must meet the internally set due date to their teacher to ensure their work can be submitted to TASC for marking.

Course-specific External Assessment Specifications, Guidelines, and Student Folio Declaration Forms are available on the Courses page for each course, under Supporting documents including external assessment material.

Please ensure you refer to the documentation published for your specific course.

Folio Submission Report (for schools/providers only)

The Folio Submission Report in TRACS is an internal tool for schools to confirm that all required student folio work and verifications were completed by the published due date to TASC.

Schools must run the report after the due date to TASC to identify any missing uploads or incomplete verifications.

Any work uploaded or verified after the due date to TASC is considered not submitted on time, regardless of when marking commences.

If the report identifies issues, schools must contact TASC to discuss the submission or non-submission of the work.

This report is for provider use only and is not published to students.

How to run the reports:

  • In TRACS via the Reports tab > select Folio Submission

Requesting an Extension for Your External Folio Assessment

You can request an extension to your folio deadline for the following reasons:

  • sudden illness – accompanied by a medical certificate
  • death of a close relative
  • unexpected travel due to the death of a close relative.

To request an extension, you must provide your TASC Liaison Officer with a completed Folio extension request form no earlier than two weeks before and at least 48 hours prior to the due date.

Important Notes:

  • Providing complete information: If all necessary information is NOT provided, TASC will contact the TASC Liaison Officer (TLO) of your school to request this information. Please be aware that this will delay the process of considering your application and notifying you of the outcome. If the TLO is unable to provide the required information to TASC by the folio due date, an extension CANNOT be approved.

  • Reasons an extension may NOT be approved: Extensions will not be approved for reasons including, but not limited to:

    • everyday illness of short duration
    • candidate holidays, whether interstate or overseas
    • planned school events such as drama and/or music performances
    • computer malfunctions.
  • Determining the length of an extension: Extensions will generally be approved for the days of absence. However, the time allocated in the guidelines for completing tasks is nominal, meaning extensions (if approved) are not strictly calculated based on the duration of illness or other circumstances. There is an expectation that students will work on their folios during their own time, including weekends and holidays. Therefore, the length of illness or the specific circumstances does not necessarily equal the extension time approved.

  • Requesting Multiple Extensions: If a student has already been approved an extension, they may apply for another if the circumstances that required the initial extension still exist.

  • Failure to Meet Extended Deadlines: If a student with an approved extension does not meet the extended deadline and does not request their TLO to submit a second application, the folio will not be accepted.

Approval Process: Folio extension approvals are made by TASC on a case-by-case basis. You will receive written notification via email from TASC regarding the outcome of your extension request.
