Understanding senior secondary certificates
Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE): Issued to learners who meet the Participation and Achievement Standard and the Everyday Adult Standards. Watch the What is the TCE? video explaining how you can achieve the TCE, including through study in VET, TASC-accredited Years 11 and 12 courses and recognised formal learning.
To plan and check you are on track with a program of study that will achieve the TCE, use the:
- TCE achievement checklist;
- TCE course planner; and
- speak with your school’s TLO, career planners and teachers.
You need to achieve the TCE to be potentially eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with an ATAR being one of the ways to obtain University entrance.
Tasmanian Certificate of Educational Achievement (TCEA): Issued to eligible students to provide a fair and broader account of their participation and achievement. Watch the What is the TCEA? video explaining the TCEA.
Qualifications Certificate: Issued to all Year 12 students as a complete record of their achievement at the end of their senior secondary studies.

What TASC does for students
- Accredits the courses you study: Courses must be accredited by TASC, which helps ensure they are high quality.
- Makes sure your results are fair and equitable: TASC sets assessment standards and uses reporting and quality checks so students across different schools are marked consistently.
- Manages external assessments: TASC oversees how external assessments (such as exams, folios and practicals) are set, marked and checked.
- Awards your official qualifications: TASC issues your senior secondary qualifications and your official results statements.
- Ensures your results are recognised: Universities, employers and training providers trust TASC qualifications because they meet state and national standards.
- Keeps records of your results: TASC securely records your course results and certificates and can reissued them if you need them in the future.
